How to Prepare Your Pet for Boarding During the Holidays

How to Prepare Your Pet for Boarding During the Holidays

If you must leave your pet behind while visiting family and friends during this holiday season, there’s no need to stress.  Your kitten and pooch can stay with us! At Friendship Animal Hospital in Pineville, we offer safe and secure pet boarding services for the holidays and any other time you need help with the care of your pet.

If your pet has never stayed in a boarding facility before, these tips from your Pineville veterinarian can help them have a positive stay.

Tour of Facility

Tour our kennels to check out where your pet will stay and see firsthand how we handle pets in our care.  This will dispel any doubts you may have about boarding your pet.

Day Visit

Bring your furry friend for a day visit or an overnight stay to help him / her get accustomed to the environment and staff.  A day visit gives your pet time to explore our kennels and partake of our daily routine before coming for an extended stay.

Vaccinations

Make sure your pet’s vaccinations are up to date including Bordetella vaccine which protects your furry canine friend against “kennel cough” and Canine Influenza which protects against Canine Flu. If your pet needs vaccinations, schedule these with your Pineville veterinarian well in advance of your boarding date as a precaution against your pet experiencing side effects during his / her stay.

Pet Food, Treats and Toys

We recommend you bring your pet’s food and favorite treat for his / her stay to help them feel more at home while are you gone.  You can also bring their water and food bowls, blanket and familiar toys as these can help minimize stress or anxiety during your absence.  If your pet is on medications, make sure you leave a supply with our staff along with instructions for how to dispense them to your pet and have the medications in the original dispensed containers.
